CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
Kansas third baseman Tony Thompson has been named a Third Team All-American by Louisville Slugger. Thompson becomes the 14th Jayhawk to be named to an all-america team, and the first since Don Czyz in 2006.
Thompson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Reno, Nev., is batting .374 with a school record 19 home runs and 78 RBIs. Thompson has been the Jayhawks’ most productive offensive player, leading the Big 12 in homers, RBIs, total bases (138) and slugging percentage (.730). He opened the season with a 14-game hitting streak, and is in the midst of a 16-game hitting streak. He ranks in KU’s single-season top 10 in six categories.
His offensive prowess helped the Jayhawks win 37 games this season, including a school record 15 victories in the Big 12.
The sophomore is one of 77 players honored on one of the Louisville Slugger All-America teams. San Diego State pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named the Player of the Year.
