Jayhawks Hold Second Weekend of Scrimmages
Oct. 1, 2012 LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Dakota Smith enjoyed a huge weekend, going 4-for-7 with two doubles, a homer and two RBIs at the plate. He also tossed two scoreless innings on the mound as Kansas baseball finished its second weekend of scrimmages at Hoglund Ballpark. KU’s pitchers also put up good numbers with sophomore Drew Morovick and senior Thomas Taylor both tossing two perfect innings in their outings. Senior lefty Jordan Luvisi recorded four strikeouts in his two innings of work in the game played Sunday. “I'm pleased with the progress we've made the first week, Wes Benjamin, Taylor, Tanner Poppe and Jordan Piche have all really stood out on the mound,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. Other offensive stars on the weekend included junior Tucker Tharp, who went 3-for-8 with a double and a homer, and senior infielder Jordan Dreiling, who had four doubles on the weekend. Kansas will continue practice Tuesday through Thursday but take the weekend off for Fall Break.
