Axtell, a proven talent with uncanny shooting range, will sit out this season under NCAA rules after transferring from the University of Texas Enrolled at KU in the fall semester Chose Kansas even though he will lose one year of eligibility (Axtell will be a junior next season) because he is transferring from one Big 12 institution to another Is eligible to practice with the Jayhawks this season Will play shooting guard and/or small forward Averaged 13.3 points per game at Texas last season and was named to the Big 12 All-freshman team Ranked 18th in the Big 12 in scoring and seventh in three-point field goals made per game

Texas sophomore center Chris Mihm was Axtell’s teammate in high school and last season at UT

Notes



Axtell’s father, Calvin, played football at Texas and graduated from UT in 1977. Luke’s grandfather, Cal, Sr., was a four-year basketball starter at North Texas and was drafted by the Boston Celtics.
When Texas played Kansas in Austin last season, Axtell led the Longhorns with 18 points. KU won the game, 102-72.
