LAWRENCE, Kan. --When Kansas tips off its ESPN Big Monday contest at West Virginia, the Jayhawks will do so as the No. 1 team in the country as the USA Today Coaches Poll moved Kansas into the top spot on Monday afternoon.

This marks the first No. 1 ranking for the Jayhawks since Feb. 14, 2011 and the 20th time overall under the direction of head coach Bill Self.

Kansas (18-1, 6-0) received 16 first-place votes, topping the 14 votes awarded to Michigan (19-1). It was the closest finish for No. 1 since the poll of Feb. 28, 2011. Kansas was also involved that week, finishing four points behind Ohio State.

Michigan holds the top-spot in the Associated Press Poll, also released on Monday afternoon.
