ESPN College GameDay a Huge Success in Fifth Trip to Allen Fieldhouse
Feb. 16, 2013
LAWRENCE, Kan. - More than 6,000 Kansas basketball faithful came to Allen Fieldhouse Saturday morning to participate in ESPN's College GameDay Driven by State Farm®. Despite a brief but heavy snowstorm Friday evening, some KU students and fans camped outside The Fieldhouse overnight to get the best seats for ESPN's College GameDay, which ran for two hours with the first hour on ESPNU and the second on ESPN. KU's pep band and spirit squads kept those in attendance engaged as the weekly show previewed the day in college basketball and this week featured the rich history of Kansas basketball and Allen Fieldhouse. Hosting the morning telecast was the College GameDay crew of Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, Jalen Rose and Digger Phelps. KU features during the two hours included a close look at the Jayhawks' strength and conditioning program ran by Andrea Hudy, KU assistant athletics director for sport performance, and a tease for ESPN's 30-for-30 "There's No Place Like Home". Kansas head coach Bill Self was on set during the telecast and Jayhawk seniors Jeff Withey and Travis Releford also participated with the GameDay activities. In addition to the two hours in the morning, ESPN will televise a show from 7-8 p.m. from the Allen Fieldhouse floor. A Kansas-Texas men's basketball game ticket will be required to watch that segment of the show in person.
