Add FoxSports.com to Kansas Men's Basketball Postseason Accolades for 2009-10
Big 12 regular-season champion Kansas (29-2, 15-1 Big 12) continues to rack up postseason accolades as it heads into the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship March 11-13, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
On Monday, March 8, three teams were announced – Yahoo! Sports All-American team and the Big 12 Specialty Awards as selected by a panel of media and the Associated Press All-Big 12 teams were – for the 2009-10 season. On Tuesday, March 9, The Sporting News named its All-American team and the United State Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) released its all-district teams.
Yahoo! Sports named Kansas senior Sherron Collins second-team All-American and junior Cole Aldrich third-team All-American. KU sophomore Marcus Morris was the national most improved player of the year by the web site. Last week, KU head coach Bill Self was named to the Yahoo! Sports All-Coaches first team.
For the conference’s specialty awards, Kansas’ Xavier Henry was named to the All-Freshman Team, while Aldrich was named to the All-Defense Team. Jayhawks Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris were selected to the league’s All-Improved Team.
The Associated Press All-Big 12 team was announced and KU’s Aldrich and Collins were first-team members, while Marcus Morris was honorable mention.
Collins was selected second-team All-American by The Sporting News. Last year, Collins was a third-team All-American by The Sporting News.
Collins, Aldrich and Henry were named to the 10-member USBWA District VI team. Collins is appearing on the team for the second straight season, while Aldrich and Henry are making their first appearance on the squad.
Foxsports.com released its All-America team Tuesday, March 9, and Collins was second team, Aldrich third team and Henry was on the All-Freshman Team.
