Jayhawks Land in Oklahoma City
March 16, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY – After a 90 minute workout at Allen Fieldhouse and a team meal, the Kansas men’s basketball made the five-hour drive down I-35 and arrived in Oklahoma City just after 6:30 p.m.
Head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks were greeted by around 20 media members and a small contingent of fans as they stepped off the bus.
“It was fine,” Self said of the ride down. “It was a five-hour bus trip so it was just like most five-hour bus trips. But we saw a couple good movies.”
Self indicated he felt the team was well rested and will be ready to go when KU takes on 16th-seeded Lehigh Thursday night at the Ford Center.
“I thought we played pretty good in Kansas City, we had a day off Sunday and got our batteries recharged,” Self said. “We had a great workout yesterday and today so we should be in pretty good spirits down here.”
Asked if March was his favorite month of the year, Self did not hesitate.
“Yes,” he said in a word. “Well, if you win your last game, I think the next month is probably my favorite time of year because that was pretty good last time. But I’ve only experienced that once. But this is the best. This is why you work - is to put yourself into positions like this and you want to extend it as long as you possibly can.”
Kansas will hold two practices on Wednesday. The public is invited to the open practice from 5:10 – 5:50 p.m. at the Ford Center.
Gametime Thursday against Lehigh is 8:30 p.m. on CBS.
