Wayne Simien Honored at Kansas Statehouse

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius honored KU All-American Wayne Simien and his family with a proclamation Wednesday during a Statehouse visit.

Leaving the Governor's office, Simien requested a photo be taken of him with Washburn University's national championship women's basketball team that was honored also Wednesday.

Simien and his mother were greeted by members of the Kansas Senate.

Simien beamed with pride as Kansas Senators rose in applause for the Leavenworth native.

Between stops in the Senate and House of Representatives, Coach Bill Self had time to sign autographs.

Simien spoke to the members of the House of Reprsentatives and thanked everyone for the special day of recognition.

Members of the Kansas House rose to applaud Simien on his accomplishments during his KU career.

Coach Self spoke of the qaulities that made Simien a special player during his comments to the House.
