Kansas Picked First in Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll
Oct. 11, 2007
IRVING, Texas - For the second consecutive year, and eighth time overall, Kansas is the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 Conference men's basketball title in a vote of the league's head coaches. The Jayhawks received 10 of 12 possible first-place votes in polling for the 2007-08 season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams. KU, the three-time defending Big 12 regular-season champions, has been picked to win 10 times overall, including a media selection prior to the Big 12's first year in 1996-97. KU is one of two Big 12 schools that have gone on to win the conference championship after being dubbed No. 1 in the preseason voting. The Jayhawks have turned the trick in five of their seven Big 12 regular-season titles - 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. "It is nice to be selected, but this is based only on what we accomplished last year and what we have coming back. This is a whole new team and we hope we can play to this preseason expectation,"
