Brandon Rush had 18 points and Darrell Arthur had 17 as the top-seeded University of Kansas men's basketball team downed No. 16 seed Portland State 85-61 in front of 17,162 fans in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Qwest Center. KU improved to 32-3 while Portland State ended its season 23-10.

Rush and Arthur each were strong early scoring 24 of their combined 35 points in the first half. Rush added six rebounds and two assists to his stat line while Arthur had a team-high seven rebounds. Mario Chalmers pumped in 16 points to go with four assists. Darnell Jackson rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.

For the second straight season and the 25th time in school history, the University of Kansas men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 when it defeated UNLV 75-56 Saturday night in front of 17,162 fans at Qwest Center. Kansas moved to 33-3 overall while UNLV ended its season at 27-8.

Mario Chalmers' 17 points led a balanced Kansas attack that saw four players score in double figures and six with at least eight points. Chalmers padded his stat line with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Russell Robinson added 13 points, Brandon Rush contributed 12 points and six boards, and Sherron Collins pumped in 10 points.

Kansas 72, Villanova 57
 

For the fifth time in the last eight seasons and the 19th time in school history, the University of Kansas men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight late Friday night when it defeated Villanova 72-57 at Ford Field. Brandon Rush led all scorers with 16 points.

An NCAA preliminary round single-game record 57,028 fans witnessed the Jayhawks improve their record to 34-3, the third-highest win total in Kansas history. Villanova fell to 22-13.

In dramatic fashion, the University of Kansas men's basketball team defeated Davidson 59-57 Sunday at Ford Field to advance to the NCAA Final Four. The Final Four trip is the 13th in school history.

In a game that saw nine ties and seven lead changes and had everyone in the stands on the edge of their seats, Kansas picked up the win on the defensive end when Davidson saw its last second shot fall left of the rim, and the celebration began.

Brandon Rush exploded for 25 points to lead the University of Kansas men's basketball team to an 84-66 win over North Carolina and a trip to the NCAA National Championship game Saturday night at the Alamodome. The stands were rocking as Kansas saw its 28-point lead trimmed to four. But in crunch time, the Jayhawks hit big shot after big shot to preserve the victory.

A crowd of 43,718 saw Kansas (36-3) capture its school-record 36th win and North Carolina end its season with a identical 36-3 record.

Trailing 60-51 with 2:12 left in regulation, the University of Kansas men's basketball team mounted a comeback that will go down as one of the most memorable in KU history to win the 2008 NCAA Division I National Championship Monday in the Alamodome. In overtime, Kansas defeated Memphis 75-68 for its fifth national title in school history.

"Our fans are terrific," head coach Bill Self said on the floor after the game. "They've been so loyal and I'd really like to thank all the past players and all the past coaches which put this program where it is and certainly made my job a lot better."

After Final Four MVP Mario Chalmers hit a game-tying three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, the Jayhawks owned the extra period.
