Entering his third year on the Kansas coaching staff is Kevin Carberry, who will work as a defensive assistant. Carberry spent the previous two seasons coaching at the high school level and playing in the Arena Football League.



Carberry spent the 2008 season as the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. He was the team's special teams coordinator and defensive line coach in 2007.



Carberry spent two years playing in the AFL, including being a member of the Arena Bowl Champion Philadelphia Soul in 2008. He also played for the New York Dragons in 2007.



Carberry was on the 2005 Detroit Lions practice squad and spent time in training camps with Cleveland (2005) and Carolina (2006). He also played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in 2006.



Carberry graduated from Ohio University in 2005 with a degree in marketing. He lettered four seasons at Ohio, serving as a team co-captain and earning all-Mid-American Conference second team honors his senior year. He then played in the Florida Villages Gridiron Classic College All-Star Game.



Carberry prepped at St. Rita High School in Chicago. He obtained his master's degree in education from Kansas in January 2011.
