Crist Named MVP At NFLPA Collegiate All-Star Bowl
Jan. 19, 2013
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Kansas quarterback Dayne Crist threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead his National team to a 34-0 win over the American team at the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Saturday evening.
Crist completed 7-of-10 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown on his way to earning MVP honors. He opened the game with a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter and followed it with a 7-yard TD pass on the next series to help push the National team to a 17-0 lead at the half.
"I had an amazing experience this week," said Crist. "This was another great experience for me. I had wonderful teammates and coaches and really learned a lot in practice this week. This opportunity is something I am very thankful for and plan to use to my advantage as I prepare for a possible future in football."
Crist was one of five Jayhawk players playing in the game. He met up with one teammate, defensive end Josh Williams, in an unfamiliar position. Williams was credited with sacking Crist in the second half of Saturday's game. Like Crist, Williams thoroughly enjoyed his experience at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
"I feel like I had a pretty good game," said Williams. "I made some plays and made my presence felt and that was my goal going into this week. I came out here with a chip on my shoulder. I wanted to put KU on the map and I feel like all of us accomplished that this week."
In addition to being coached by former NFL coaches Herm Edwards and Dick Vermeil and having the chance to work with various NFL staffers throughout the week, KU's quintet of players also had the opportunity to do some community service during their week in California.
"Being out here was a great experience and opportunity," said Williams. "I enjoyed the practices and being around all of the guys, but we also had a great community service event with Habitat for Humanity. I like to contribute to the community in that type of way and that was exciting opportunity for me."
Complete stats from the game will be published upon availability.
