Lowe's Senior CLASS Award List Includes KU's Stuckey

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football standout Darrell Stuckey has been named to the 30-player Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidate list it was announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior in the Football Bowl Subdivision and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.
Stuckey is now on lists for six national awards as he was previously named to the Bronko Nagurski (top defender), Chuck Bednarik Award (top defender), Jim Thorpe (top defensive back), Ronnie Lott (on and off the field success for a defender) and the AFCA Good Works Team (off the field contributions) watch lists.
Stuckey, a senior safety from Kansas City, Kan., is one of four captains for the Jayhawks, who open their 2009 season hosting Northern Colorado on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox College Sports Central.
Stuckey recorded 98 tackles and five interceptions last season. He has started a team-best 30 consecutive games.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season. The winner of the award will be selected through a nationwide voting system for media, coaches and fans. The award is in its second year. Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis won the inaugural award.
