IRVING, Texas – Kansas senior quarterback Quinn Mecham was named a Big 12 Conference Fall Community of Champions honoree on Wednesday by the league office.

Mecham, who has played football at KU the last two seasons, has been one of KU’s most involved community service student-athletes. The transfer from Snow Junior College in Provo, Utah, is earning a degree in business and was named Academic All-Big 12 earlier this fall.

Mecham is active in SAAC and regularly participates in community service opportunities through Big Brothers Big Sisters, a local shelter and Special Olympics.

During the fall, winter and spring terms, one student-athlete from each institution is honored by the Big 12, in conjunction with Chick-fil-A, based on the following criteria:

-      Academics: An academic standard of a 3.00 grade point average or higher must be maintained.

-      Community Service: The designated student-athlete should be involved with at least one community service program. The program(s) could be a student organization on campus or within the athletics department.

-      Leadership/Sportsmanship: The student-athlete should demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship on and off the field.

The institution of the student-athletes on this list will be awarded $4,500 from Chick-fil-A as a result of their efforts within the community.
