LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football earned recognition by the American Football Coaches’ Association (AFCA), which announced its Academic Achievement Awards on Monday.  

KU was honored as one of 47 Division I institutions which achieved a 75-percent graduation rate or better for its 2005 freshman class of student-athletes. The Jayhawks were just one of four schools from the Big 12 to be honored by the AFCA, joining Baylor, Texas and TCU.

Academics have continued to be a major focus for the Jayhawks under head coach Charlie Weis. During the spring 2012 semester, Kansas football achieved its highest single-semester grade point average, scoring a 3.0 team GPA. This included four players that earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the semester.

The Jayhawks will wrap up the 2012 season by traveling to West Virginia for a 1:30 p.m. CT kickoff against the Mountaineers that can be seen on Fox Sports Net.
