The University of Kansas men's golf team is in second place, in a 13-team field, after two rounds of the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.  Kansas opened the two-day tournament with a first round total of 292, then followed with a second round score of 289 for a two-round total of 581 on the 6,950 yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Club.

"We struggled a little bit today," head coach Ross Randall said.  "The golf course played pretty tough today with the wind blowing as hard as it was."

In team competition, senior Kevin Ward leads the Jayhawks with a one-under 143 after rounds of 71 and 72 and is tied for third.  Senior Andrew Price, the tournament's defending champion, is tied for 12th with a 146 after carding rounds of 70 and 76, respectively.  Sophomore Tyler Docking is tied for 20th after shooting 76 and 72 for a combined total of 148.  Sophomore Gary Woodland is tied for 28th after carding rounds of 80 and 69 for a combined score of 149.  Junior Jason Sigler is tied for 37th after rounds of 75 and 76.
 
Six Jayhawks are competing on an individual basis, and are led by sophomore Barrett Martens, who shot rounds of 75 and 68  for a share of third place with a total of 143.  Martens' 68 was the lowest score of the day and the lowest round of his career.  Junior Pete Krsnich is in a tie for 12th after rounds of 74 and 72 gave him a combined score of 146.  Junior Ryan Rainer is tied for 32nd after rounds of 73 and 77 gave him a total of 150.  Freshman Joey Mundy is tied for 41st after carding rounds of 75 and 77 for a combined score of 152.  Junior Luke Trammell is tied for 47th after he carded rounds of 78 and 75 for a total of 153.  Freshman John Newcomer is tied for 53rd after back-to-back rounds of 77 gave him a total of 154.
 
"We know tomorrow is going to be better and we hope our best golf is in front of us," Randall said. 


 

 

Kansas will finish tournament action, Tuesday Sept. 21, in the third round of the Kansas Invitational.  A shotgun tee-time is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
