Oct. 4, 2004
Lake Forest, Ill. - The No. 17 Kansas men's golf team is in 12th place, in an 18-team field, after one round of the Windon Memorial at Conway Farms G.C. in Lake Forest, Ill. Kansas opened the two-day tournament with a first round total of 305 and the second round was stopped due to darkness. "We had all kinds of trouble in the morning round," head coach Ross Randall said. "We had players lose golf balls and the temperature was in the 40's with a gusty wind." LSU currently leads the tournament after a first round 287. Senior Kevin Ward and sophomore Barrett Martens lead the Jayhawks after shooting opening round 74's to tie for 21st. Senior Andrew Price is tied for 29th after carding a first round 75. Sophomore Tyler Docking is tied for 81st place after he carded a score of 82 in the first round. Junior Ryan Rainer shot a first round 83 to tie for 85th. "Our afternoon was going much better until we had to stop play," Randall said. "We will do our best to try and move up the leaderboard tomorrow." Kansas will finish the two holes they have left in the second round and begin third round action immediately following.
