Former Jayhawk Thompson Slips to Tie for Ninth at Greater Cedar Rapids Open
July 28, 2012
MARION, Iowa -- Former Jayhawk golfer Chris Thompson shot par Saturday in the second round of the Greater Cedar Rapids Open, but it wasn’t nearly enough to hold the lead he had built after Friday’s first round.
Thompson’s two-day aggregate of 7-under 132 trails Garrett Jones, who leads the field at 12 under par after shooting a 7-under 65 Saturday. Thompson had taken a one-shot lead into Saturday’s second-round action by shooting a 65 Friday at the Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. Saturday he recorded three birdies, but a triple-bogey six on the par-3 fourth hole derailed his efforts.
Some 150 professional golfers are competing in the three-day event; winner takes home $20,000. Final-round action is Sunday.
