Men's Golf To Compete in The Invitational at Kiawah
Oct. 16, 2011 KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Following a two-week break, Kansas men's golf will compete Monday and Tuesday in The Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., the site of the 2012 PGA Championship. Senior Doug Quinones, juniors Chris Gilbert, Alex Gutesha and Paul Harris, and sophomores Bryce Brown and Jordan Lowery will represent KU in the unique event that will allow each team to field a squad of six golfers while still only counting the top four individual scores each round. The 12-team field will consist of Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Davidson, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Mercer, Notre Dame, Richmond, South Florida, UAB and USC Upstate. Kansas head coach Kit Grove said that the Jayhawks are looking forward to implementing what they had been working on in practice during the two-week layoff. “With a couple weeks off, we’re hoping to get going in the right direction starting Monday,” said Grove. “We’re hoping our work will pay off because we need to improve and improve quickly.” Live results for the tournament can be found at www.golfstat.com. After The Invitational, men's golf will have one remaining event on its fall schedule, the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Oct. 24-25, an event the Jayhawks won last year.
