JAYHAWK CHAMPS 2010-2011 Competition

The Jayhawk CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success) competition is designed to appeal to student-athletes' competitiveness and rewards those teams who encourage and participate in personal development opportunities as well as building camaraderie between all Jayhawk teams.

The Categories:

1. Personal Development

  • This category is designed to award points to those student-athletes who are committed to empowering themselves by attending programs that will contribute to their personal development.
  • Points are given on a sliding scale according to roster size. A team can receive up to 100 points if 60% of team participates in or attends the same event.

 

2. Community Outreach

  • Connecting with the community will be recognized and rewarded in this category. Events include those community relations campaigns implemented by the KU Athletics Department and also individual or team organized efforts.
  • Points are given on a sliding scale according to roster size. A team can receive up to 100 points if 60 percent of team participates in or attends the same event.

 

3. Team GPA

  • This category celebrates the academic achievements of our teams. It not only rewards overall team achievement, but also rewards a team if it improves overall Team GPA. For the point system, the Team GPA from the previous spring and fall semesters will be considered.
  • Point System
    • Highest Team GPA 100 points
      Highest increase in Team GPA 50 points
      3.0 Team GPA 50 points
      Bonus: New team record GPA = additional 100 points
      Highest GPA ever recorded in Kansas Athletics = additional 200 points

 

4. Jayhawks supporting Jayhawks... We're all on the same team!

  • This category is designed to promote and encourage student-athletes to support their fellow Jayhawks. 
  • Points are given on a sliding scale according to roster size. A team can receive up to 100 points if 60 percent of team participates in or attends the same event.

SAAC Representatives can report team attendance at home competitions to Adam Miller, Carrah Haley or Ally Stanton. We also receive sign-in sheets for home men's basketball and football games.

 

5. SAAC Involvement

  • This category rewards those student-athletes dedicated to serving their fellow student-athletes and representing the voice of their respective teams. Teams must designate SAAC reps within first month of fall semester.

6. Jayrock

  • Teams who submit skits or videos will receive 200 points.
  • Points will be administered for winning teams based on the awards determined to be given by SAAC.

         Point System

  • Points are given on a sliding scale according to roster size. A team can receive up to 100 points if 60 percent of team participates in or attends the same event.

      Sliding Scale:

      Each team receives points according to their roster size. The amount of points per person is equal to each individual's percentage of their team's overall roster composition. The 2010-2011 point system is as follows:

 The office of Student-Athlete Development reserves the right to adjust the amount of points activities are worth based on length of activity, the quality of the time and effort put into the event.

Some events will be announced to be worth more points than regular activties, and will be stated prior to the event.

Student-athletes need to be responsible for reporting activities in a timely manner so we can keep an updated scoreboard, and also so we can keep an accurate count.
