Gave KU a 11-3 record this season in Allen Fieldhouse, while the Jayhawks' record against the Mountaineers fell to 3-1 overall, 1-1 Big 12.
Gives Kansas a 1-1 record against WVU in Allen Fieldhouse. The school's first Big 12 meeting, Jan. 2, 1994, was the last time the teams met in WVU Coliseum when the Jayhawks defeated the Mountaineers, 84-64.
During the first period, nine lead changes occurred and the game was tied five times. Total for the game, there were fifteen lead changes and six ties.
In both matchups this season, West Virginia led by one going into halftime (Janaury 5, 31-30, and February 9, 29-28).
When the Jayhawks traveled to Morgantown, W. Va. January 5th, the Mountaineers committed 27 fouls and KU converted 23-of-34 (67.6 percent) at the free-throw line. This afternoon, Kansas shot 12-for-19 (63.2 percent) from the line and West Virginia only had 14 fouls.
The Kansas defense held junior guard Taylor Palmer to zero three-point shots and handed her a scoreless game. In their last meeting, Palmer sank four from beyond the arc (4-for-8) and is tops (42 percent) in the Big 12 for three-point shooting percentage.
At the 11:17 mark, the Mountaineers went on a 19-6 run, 67-50, which lasted 8:16.
The Jayhawks shot their second lowest three-point shooting percentage (9.5 percent, 2-for 21) of the season. Against Wake Forest on November 18, Kansas shot 7.7 percent (1-for-13) from the trey.
At the 17:54 mark of the second half, the Jayhawks grabbed their only lead of the first half, 34-33. KU trailed the rest of the period and WVU had its largest lead at the 54 second mark, 72-54.
Senior forward Carolyn Davis scored her 1,637th career-point at the 6:20 mark with a layup. Davis surpassed Crystal Kemp (1,637) to move into eighth on the all-time scoring list. She posted her second double-double on the season and 20th for her career. Davis scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half. At the 4:16 mark Davis had accounted for more than half of the Jayhawks points. The senior forward also grabbed seven of her 11 boards before intermission and broke her season rebounding high (10).
Senior guard Angel Goodrich led the team with six assists, tallying four in the first half.
Sophomore forward Chelsea Gardner shot 83 percent (5-for-6) from the field and added 11 points for KU. Gardner is ranked second in the conference with a 57.9 field-goal percentage.
