DALLAS - Kansas continued to whittle away at Iowa State's lead throughout the second half, but good never making any ground even with 12 second-half points from senior Carolyn Davis and Jayhawks were eliminated from the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, 77-62, Saturday in the American Airlines Center.

Senior forward Chelsea Poppens led the Cyclones with 24 points, while junior forward Hallie Christofferson added 23 points to improve Iowa State to 22-7 on the season.

The Jayhawks (18-13) jumped out to an 8-2 start, four minutes into the game trigged by a layup from senior Monica Engelman in the game's first 40 seconds. Kansas set the tempo right away and used patience to rotate the offense and dish the ball inside to Davis and Chelsea Gardner.

By the 14:50 mark, Iowa State's Poppens accounted for six of the team's first eight points, 8-8, posting up on the low block. The two teams, each boasting a win during the regular season series, went back and forth during the first half of the period, but by the 10th minute ISU took control of the game.

With back-to-back threes from Christofferson, the Cyclones took their first lead and went on an 18-7 run over a 7:47 span, for a 30-18 lead. Both Christofferson and Poppens accounted for ISU's first 22 points, while freshman guard Nicole Blaskowsky contributed the Cyclones' following eight points to conclude the run.

At the 3:08 mark, KU's Angel Goodrich scored a traditional three-point play off a made layup and ensuing free throw to tighten the game within eight points, 34-26.

The Cyclones came out of intermission to only stretch their lead, 45-32, with Poppens adding eight of ISU's 11 opening tallies before the 15:19 mark.

Kansas fought back, coming within eight points, 59-47, with 9:14 remaining, but could not stop Iowa State's effort into the final minutes of the game.
