LAWRENCE, Kan. -Sophomore forward Chelsea Gardner recorded her first-career double-double scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the No. 20-ranked Kansas women's basketball team rallied from a 10-0 opening deficit to defeat Grambling State, 101-47, Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Sophomore guard Natalie Knight also recorded a season-high 13 points as every Jayhawk scored on the night.

Sophomore Asia Boyd also compiled her first career double-double dropping in 15 points and snatching 10 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Bunny Williams also grabbed 10 boards as Kansas outrebounded the Tigers, 53-30, including 18 offensive boards that led to 14 second-chance points.

Kansas (6-0 overall) struggled early in the first minutes of the game allowing Grambling State to take a 10-0 lead. Senior guard Angel Goodrich was the first Jayhawk to score 2:36 into the game cutting the Grambling lead to 10-2.

Sophomore guard Natalie Knight kick started a Kansas run when she stole the ball from Grambling State's Tyler Anderson and converted it to a two-point basket with 16:38 left in the first half. Kansas countered its opening 10-point deficit with a 19-4 run over the next 5:26 and took the lead for good. Knight accounted for seven points during the run, including a three pointer to pull Kansas within one, 14-13.

Senior guard Monica Engelman had a two-point shot at the end of the first that sent the Jayhawks into halftime with a 42-29 lead and gave KU the momentum to pull away in the second half. Kansas' 13-point advantage was its largest half-time lead of the season.

The Jayhawks opened the second half with a basket from Engelman to start a 25-3 run in the first minute that lasted 8:52. Gardner did most of her damage during Kansas' run tallying 20 points in the second half. 

A basket by Grambling State's Victoria Ricks at 11:03 broke the Jayhawk run but did not break the Kansas momentum as the Jayhawks topped 100 points for the first time this season and the first since 2010.

Grambling State was led by Cierra Ceazer who contributed 14 points and three steals in 32 minutes for the Tigers.

Kansas returns to action when the Jayhawks host Minnesota on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Allen Fieldhouse at 2 p.m.
