For the second-straight year, KU will open Big 12 play at in-state rival Kansas State. The two teams are schedule for their Big 12 opener on Saturday, Jan. 9. Kansas will then host Oklahoma State in its conference home-opener on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
The Jayhawks, who are led by sixth-year head coach Bonnie Henrickson, will host Border Showdown foe Missouri (Jan. 17), before hitting the road for games at 2009 NCAA Elite Eight participant Iowa State (Jan. 20) and 2009 NCAA Final Four team Oklahoma (Jan. 23). KU will close out January with a home game versus Colorado (Jan. 27) and a road contest at Missouri (Jan. 30).
Following an open date to begin the month of February, KU will have a three-game home stand as the Jayhawks will host Kansas State (Feb. 7), Nebraska (Feb. 10) and Texas (Feb. 13). Both Kansas State and Texas advanced to the 2009 NCAA Championship, while Nebraska played in the 2009 WNIT.
Kansas will then play games at Colorado (Feb. 16) and Texas Tech (Feb. 20). KU will play host to Iowa State (Feb. 24), before traveling to 2009 NCAA Sweet 16 participant Baylor (Feb. 28) in its final game in February.
The Jayhawks will open the month of March with a game at Nebraska (March 3) and then host 2009 NCAA Sweet 16 team Texas A&M on "Senior Night" to conclude the regular season schedule.
The 2010 Big 12 Championship, which will be held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., will begin Thursday, March 11, and will conclude with the title game on Sunday, March 14.
The Jayhawks, who reached the 2009 WNIT championship game after playing one of the toughest schedules in the country, will also face five non-conference foes who reached postseason play in 2009.
Highlighted by games versus Michigan (Nov. 22) and UCLA (Dec. 3), KU's non-conference home schedule also includes games against Oral Roberts (Nov. 15), Northern Colorado (Dec. 6), UMKC (Dec. 10) and Pepperdine (Dec. 30).
As previously announced, the Jayhawks will compete in the 2009 Junkanoo Jam on Grand Bahama Island Nov. 26-28. Kansas will face Xavier in the opening round on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 26), and will play either Minnesota or TCU Saturday, Nov. 28.
In addition to playing in the Junkanoo Jam, the Jayhawks' non-conference road schedule includes games at Iowa, who finished second in the Big Ten Conference (Nov. 18), Houston (Dec. 22) and New Mexico State (Jan. 3).
KU will tip-off the 2009-10 season with a pair of Sunday afternoon exhibition games in Allen Fieldhouse versus Pittsburg State (Nov. 1) and Emporia State (Nov. 8).
Kansas returns four starters and eight letterwinners to the line-up, including All-American guard-forward Danielle McCray. The Jayhawks will add seven newcomers to the 2009-10 team, led by redshirt freshman Angel Goodrich, who sat out the entire 2008-09 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury prior to the start of the season.
