In her first season as assistant coach, Katy Heher comes to KU after spending the last two years as an instructor/coach at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C. One of her strong areas is working with players on their short games. Prior to that, Heher was an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina from 2007-09 and helped the team to a Big South Conference Championship in 2009. Heher played golf at Coastal Carolina and was a three-time all-Big South selection, as well as the league's freshman of the year in 2004. In her sophomore season the Lady Chanticleers won the conference team title as she was the individual runner-up. "We are very excited to have Katy join our family at KU," O'Neil said. "Her time as a successful collegiate player will help her provide our team with valuable insight about work ethic and what it takes to be the best. We believe her experience as an instructor at a golf academy, such as Hank Haney's, will also be a huge asset for our golf program." Heher was also a four-time All-American Scholar, a two-time academic all-Big South selection and played in a school-record 127 rounds. The Nichols, S.C. native graduated with a degree in marketing from Coastal Carolina in 2007.
