Kansas Finishes Ninth in Final Event of Regular Season

OXFORD, Miss. - Meghan Gockel fired a one-over par 73 in the final round of play to help the Kansas women's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate Sunday. Kansas recorded a third-round score of 305 to bring its final score to 910 in its final event of the regular season. Tulane took the tournament title with a final score of 877 (290-292-295). Texas A&M finished in second place with an 880 (298-295-287), while Missouri ended the tournament in fifth place (294-301-293--888). Oklahoma fell to tied for 14th in the final day of play with a score of 920 (306-303-311). Host-school Mississippi took third place (294-299-288--881). Gockel improved to tied for 70th with a score of 235. Jennifer Clark also tied for 70th after a third round of 77. Grace Thiry led the team with a 24th-place finish after shooting a 74 in the final round for a final of 225. Emily Powers ended the day tied for 45th after carding an 81 in the final round for a three-day score of 229. Megna Bal who shot identical first and second rounds with Powers, finished tied for 54th with a 231 (72-76-83). Maria Jackson chipped in an 82 to finish the tournament in 105th as an individual. Julia Potter of Missouri took medalist honors as she finished the tournament eight-under par 208 (70-68-70). Kansas will head to Norman, Okla., to compete in the Big 12 Championship April 23-25.
