Boonraksasat, Bal Help Kansas Women's Golf Finish 11th at Big 12 Championship

COLUMBIA, Mo.—Freshman Thanuttra Boonraksasat and senior Meghna Bal both finished in the top 30 to help Kansas women’s golf finish 11th at the 2011 Big 12 Championship at Old Hawthorne Golf Course in Columbia, Mo., Sunday. As a team the Jayhawks shot 911 for the tournament. Boonraksasat made three bogeys in her first eight holes before rebounding with two birdies over the next five holes. Unable to keep the momentum going, Boonraksasat made two more bogeys in the last five holes to finish with a 75 on the day. The freshman tied for 23rd with a 224 for the tournament. Competing in her final competition as a Jayhawk, Bal rebounded from a 78 in the second round to fire a 75 in the third. Bal tied for 28th individually with a 226 for the tournament. Also competing in her final tournament as a Jayhawk, senior Grace Thiry tied for 54th with a 54-hole 238. Thiry shot an 84 in the third round. Junior Katy Nugent improved on the final day firing a 74 to give her a 54-hole 226 to tie for 35th. Nugent birdied two holes on the front nine, but bogeyed twice in her final four holes. After carding an 84 in the second round, freshman Meghan Potee improved by four strokes on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole 240 good for 59th place. Kansas finishes the season with 10 top 10 finishes, including four top five finishes and one tournament title, out of eleven events. Team Standings 1. Texas 296-287-289—872 2.
