Jayhawks Finish Ninth At Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The University of Kansas women's golf team placed ninth out of 17 teams after completion of the final two rounds Tuesday at the Colorado State Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. The Jayhawks finished with a total score of 903 (295-310-298) at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. "I am pleased with the results of the first tournament," head coach Erin O'Neil said. "Freshman Meghan Gockel did very well, progressively improving her score each round." Rain suspended second round play Monday, scheduling completion for Tuesday before the final round. Colorado took top honors shooting an overall 872 and Baylor placed second - one stroke shy - with an 873. Senior Amanda Costner finished in a tie for 18th place with a 74 in the second round and 79 in the final round, and freshman Meghan Gockel tied for 30th with a 76 and 71. Freshman Emily Powers shot 79 and 76 to tie for 38th, while junior Annie Giangrosso finished in a tie for 46th place with an 82 and 75. Freshman Camilla Svensson tied for 62nd place with an 81 in the second round and 76 in the final round. "We are looking forward to competition next week and getting ready for our next tournament," O'Neil said.
