LINCOLN, Neb.- Emily Powers finished second in the individual race to lead Kansas to a third-place finish at the Chip-N Club Invitational women’s golf tournament on Tuesday.

Powers finished the tournament at three-under par 213 to place behind Amy Anderson of North Dakota State, who was six-under par en route to medalist honors.

The Jayhawks shot an 895 team total to finish behind Missouri (878) and host Nebraska (889).  Arkansas-Little Rock (900) and Sacramento State (904) rounded out the top five of the 14-team tournament, which was the season-opener for Kansas.

Powers, a senior, matched her second-best career finish as she won the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational and tied for second at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational last season.

Powers was one of just three players to shoot under par for the three-round tournament.  Grace Thiry tied for 17th for Kansas with a 226 total, shooting 74 in both the second and third round after an opening round 78.

Meghan Gockel and Kaylynd Carson each shot 228 totals to tie for 24th, while Meghna Bal tied for 48th at 238 to round out the KU scoring.  Jennifer Clark competed as an individual and shot 233 to tie for 38th.

The Jayhawks will return to action when they travel to Manhattan, Kan., to compete at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational September 28-29.
