Kansas Post Match Quotes Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational Lawrence, Kan.—Sept. 28, 2010
Head Coach Erin O’Neil
On the team’s victory: “It is always nice to win at home and to also take first and second place individually is icing on the cake. I’m really proud of our girls. They were steady all day and had a great mindset.”
On how transfer Katy Nugent has helped the team: “It upped everybody’s game and mentality. She has come right in and just jumped right in for us. She has fit right in with the team. She has been a spark for us.”
On the play of senior Grace Thiry: “Grace has always been very consistent. She’s been a good leader for us. I’m glad that she was able to put it together. She’s been real close for awhile. I think she will continue to build on that.”
Senior Grace Thiry
On her win: “There was so much support out there over the two days and to share the win with some of the KU Athletics staff who came out was great. It was such a great feeling to put in some consistently low rounds and to come out with a win. It’s even more special to win our home tournament. I think it will create some excitement for the rest of the season.”
Junior Katy Nugent
On finishing second in her second competition with the Jayhawks: “It’s really great. I’ve been looking forward to this tournament since I signed here. It’s always fun to play at home and it’s great to play well for the team.”
On overcoming some early struggles on day one: “My putting was really good the last 36 holes. Especially yesterday afternoon I made a bunch of birdies. I did a pretty good job of taking advantage of the par fives today. They were all playing pretty short and I birdied three of the four of them. My short game was just really good the last 36 holes.”
On shooting a 69 in the second round: “It was a big confidence booster. It is the best round of college golf I have had. It was nice to get that under my belt and come back and play well today.”
