KU's Gockel Named To Academic All-District Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas golfer Meghan Gockel was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large team it was announced Thursday. The senior is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced June 10.
The Academic At-Large teams are selected from the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo. Only 11 student-athletes are named first team.
Gockel, a senior from Dallas, Texas owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in accounting and finance. She is a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection.
On the course, Gockel competed in every tournament for the Jayhawks this past season. She posted a scoring average of 78 and had a top finish of tied for 24th at the Nebraska Chip-N-Club Invitational.
In 2008 she posted the sixth-best three-round tournament score in KU history with a 218 at the Duramed Collegiate. In 2009 she earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors by tying for sixth place at the league championship.
