July 12, 2012
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas women’s golfer Audrey Yowell won the 90th Kansas Women’s Amateur Championship by firing a final round one-over 72 at the Manhattan Country Club Thursday.
A native of McPherson, Kan., Yowell entered Thursday’s final round with a one-stroke lead over Wichita State women’s assistant coach Krista Peterson in the amateur Championship Flight. The KU senior-to-be, Yowell distanced herself from the field as her 72 was the low round of the day giving her a three-round total of 221 (74-75-72). Peterson was second with a 227 (81-69-77), while KU sophomore-to-be Michelle Woods finished third with a 228. Like Yowell, Woods improved her final round by carding a 74 on her home course. She opened the event with a 76 on Tuesday and shot a 78 on Wednesday.
