KU's Yowell Wins Opening Round Match At Trans Amateur

LINCOLN, Neb. - Kansas sophomore-to-be Audrey Yowell claimed a first-round match at the 80th annual Women's Trans Amateur Golf Championship Wednesday.
Yowell, who qualified for match play by tying for 31st place with back-to-back rounds of 78, defeated Jackie Shepherd of Delafield, Wis. in 22 holes in the round of 64. Yowell will meet Kerry Postillion of Scottsdale, Ariz. in the second round. Postillion posted a convincing 6&5 win in her first round match.
Yowell, who is from McPherson, Kan., played in two events for the Jayhawks as a true freshman this past season. In the fall she tied for 51st at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. In the spring, she tied for second at the White Wing JV Invitational.
