Women's Golf To Compete At Chip-N Club Invitational
Sept. 15, 2006
LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Kansas women's golf team will compete in a 14-team field at Nebraska's Chip-N-Club Invitational, Sept. 18-19, at Yankee Hill Golf Club (6,040-yard, par 72) in Lincoln, Neb. Rounds one and two will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., with the final round beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Senior Amanda Costner, junior Annie Giangrosso and freshmen Meghan Gockel, Camilla Svensson and Emily Powers will compete in team-play, while senior Jill Womble will compete unattached.
The 14-team field includes Big 12 rivals Nebraska - the host, who won last year's tournament for the third straight year - and Kansas State. Other teams include Campbell, Creighton, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Texas-Pan American, Weber State, Wichita State and Xavier.
"We will work to build on what we did last week," head coach Erin O'Neil said. "We had two solid rounds, and now we want three solid rounds and see where we end up. This will be a good tournament to win - if we do win."
This past week the Jayhawks opened the fall season at Colorado State's Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The team tabbed ninth place out of 17, and senior Amanda Costner placed in a tie for 18th with a three-round score of 223. Freshman Meghan Gockel carded a third-round score of 71 in her debut tournament as a Jayhawk.
