Kawinpakorn Leads All Individuals; Jayhawks in Second in Las Cruces
Oct. 8, 2012 LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Kansas freshman Yupaporn Kawinpakorn fired a 3-under 69 to lead all golfers after the first round of the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., Monday. The Jayhawks sit in second place in the team standings. KU junior Meghan Potee is tied for 10th individually, among the 76 competitors, after shooting a 1-over par 73, while sophomore Gabby DiMarco is tied for 22nd with a 75. Junior Thanuttra Boonraksasat is two shots behind DiMarco at 77, which is tied for 38th and senior Audry Yowell shot an 81 and is tied 66th. Kawinpakorn carded four birdies and one bogey on the day, while Potee had four of her five birdies on the back nine of the par-72 course. DiMarco finished strong, ending her round with two birdies on the final four holes. Kawinpakorn has a one-stroke lead over New Mexico State’s Kacey Dalpes who shot a 2-under 70 for the host school. Team-wise, Kansas shot a 6-over 294 and sits in second place, four strokes behind tournament leader Idaho (290, +2). With even par at 288, Washington State (296, +8) is in third in the 13-team field. Kansas freshman Ann-Kathrin Wuensch is competing as an individual and shot a 7-over 79, which is tied for 56th. The second of three rounds will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and the event will conclude with 18 holes on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Live scoring can be followed via golfstat.com.
