Varsity Excels on Senior Day

The University of Kansas rowing team celebrated Senior Day as it competed against Drake and Tulsa on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Burcham Park in Lawrence, Kan. The first of seven races began at 2:00pm.
The varisty boats were victorious against Drake and Tulsa in each of their four races. The 2nd Varsity Four finished in first with a time of 7:33.1. Kansas' 1st Varsity Four also claimed the top spot finishing in 7:20.3. In the 2nd Varisty Eight race, the Jayhawks came in first with a time of 6:45.9. In the last race of the day, the 1st Varsity Eight finished on top in 6:27.6.
"I thought we did a really good job today," head coach Rob Catloth said. "Practice has gone well this week. We raced really hard today. If you do that, it helps the results. Now, we are going to try and get faster for next week's race against K-State in Manhattan."
The novice team gained valuable experience competing in three races. In the first race of the day, the 1st Novice Eight finished in second with a time of 6:54.45, only 3.25 seconds behind Tulsa. In the first flight of the Novice Four race, the Jayhawks placed second with a time of 8:32.5. The Jayhawks finished second with a time of 8:10.4 in the second flight of the Novice Four race.
"We have good senior leadership this year," Catloth said. "Having a win on Senior Day is always a good thing."
The Jayhawks will travel to Manhattan, Kan., on April 9 to compete for the Kansas Cup against in-state rival K-State.
