Eight Rowers Earn Conference USA Academic Medals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Eight members of the University of Kansas rowing team have earned a Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal it was announced Wednesday by Commissioner Britton Banowsky. Medals are given to C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. A total of 538 student-athletes have earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal during the 2011-12 academic year. KU is a member of both the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA for the sport of rowing. Other C-USA members in rowing include Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas, SMU, Tulsa, UCF, Alabama and Tennessee. The eight Jayhawk recipients include: senior Melanie Luthi, sophomores Caty Clements, Elizabeth Scherer and Hannah Singhal and freshmen Julia Alvey, Nicole Balmaceda, Kate Lygrisse and Nicole Otey.
