Jayhawks Set to Host Kansas State in Sunflower Showdown on Senior Day
April 5, 2012
LAWRENCE, Kan. – After having last weekend off from competition, the University of Kansas rowing team is back on the water Saturday, April 7, when the Jayhawks host in-state rival, Kansas State in the Sunflower Showdown. This weekend’s dual with the Wildcats will also be Senior Day for six senior Jayhawk rowers. Competition is slated to start at 10 a.m. at Wyandotte County Lake. Saturday’s regatta will be the final home regatta for the following six seniors: Molly Boehner, Lindsey Bricklemyer, Melanie Luthi, Angela Mings, Kathryn Schoonover and Paige Stephens. The regatta also marks the "Jayhawks for a Cure" Pink Event, in which KU will wear pink uniforms for the dual. Additionally a table will be available for fans to make donations with all proceeds benefitting Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center and the KU Med Cancer Center. Last year, Kansas won the First Novice Eight and First Varsity Four Races to jump out to an early 6-0 lead on Senior Day at Wyandotte County Lake, but Kansas State took both Varsity Eight races to ultimately claim the Kansas Cup, 13-6. The all-time series, which began in 1998, is now tied as each school has hoisted the Kansas Cup seven times. This year’s Kansas Cup also marks the fifth-straight season in which Wyandotte County Lake will be the host site. KU will then head to Camden, N.J. to participate in the Knecht Cup April 14-15.
