Kara Lowery begins her third season at Kansas after joining the Jayhawk staff as an assistant coach in January 2005. Lowery primarily trains the field players and functions as KU's camp coordinator among other administrative duties. She currently holds her USSF "A" License. Lowery joined the KU staff after being named the MIAA Coach of the Year following one season at Emporia State. In 2004, she led the Hornets to a 10-8-2 record, marking the first winning season in the four-year history of the program. ESU placed third in the MIAA and climbed as high as fifth in the NSCAA/adidas Central Region rankings. Prior to her appointment at Emporia State, Lowery served as the head coach at St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, Okla., for four seasons. Under her guidance, the team was able to advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament all four seasons and to the NAIA Tournament in 2001. During her tenure, the Lady Cavs compiled a 30-38-6 overall record. She was also heavily involved in the Oklahoma ODP. She served as the state's ODP head coach from 2001 until she left the state. Lowery began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. from 1998-99. A Ponca City, Okla., native, Lowery was a four-time All-American at Southern Nazarene University. She earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman and sophomore and was named second team All-American as a junior and senior. Lowery resides in Lawrence. |
