Kansas Soccer Tops Arkansas, 1-0
April 11, 2009
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Sophomore Katie Williams’ first half goal and KU’s defense led the Jayhawks to their first win of the spring season Saturday, 1-0 over Arkansas at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
Williams, a sophomore defender from Houston, Texas, used her head to direct in a Shannon McCabe corner kick in the first half to give KU a 1-0 lead.
The Jayhawks’ defense, spearheaded by freshman goalkeeper Kat Liebetrau, posted a shutout.
“I thought we played really well defensively,” Kansas head coach Mark Francis said. “We competed well today, which is something we talked about after last week. I didn’t think the game had much rhythm, but I think we did a good job of battling.”
Kansas will play its final spring exhibition contest next Saturday against South Dakota State in Omaha, Neb.
