LAWRENCE, Kan. - Jayhawk freshman Jessica Bush scored her first collegiate goal, the game-winner, to lead the University of Kansas to a 2-0 victory over Missouri State, Wednesday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.  With the victory, KU improves to 1-1-1 on the season.

"The players looked very tired in the first half," commented head coach Mark Francis.  "We kind of regrouped at halftime, the second half was a lot better and they actually played pretty well, we created a lot more chances."

Bush's goal in the first half came when Missouri State's goalkeeper Jackie Jasper  ventured far out in the box to track down a ball played up to Bush.  When Jasper couldn't control the ball, Bush picked it up and calmly took a few steps to her left before firing the ball into the open net.

Caroline Smith tallied KU's second goal in the 84th minute to give the Jayhawks their final two-goal margin of victory.  Smith's shot from the middle of the field and 20-yards out found the bottom left of the net.

Sophomore Colleen Quinn made three saves while picking up her first career shutout.

Kansas out-shot Missouri State, 18-6, and forced Jasper to make 10 saves.  The physical match saw MSU commit 22 penalties to KU's nine.

Nicole Braman added a spark for Kansas off the bench.  The senior took three shots, landing two on goal.

Match Notes:
Caroline Smith has tallied a goal in all three of the Jayhawks matches this season ... Quinn's shutout ended a six-match streak where KU did not shutout an opponent ... The Jayhawks posted 11-shutouts last season.
