Although she is a freshman on the University of Kansas soccer team, Liana Salazar will be taking on team USA during the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Saturday, July 2 when Salazar suits up for her native country Colombia.

In the past, Salazar has started for both the U-17 and U-20 Colombian World Cup teams, but this year is her first competing at the senior level. Colombia is looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Sweden in the first round of group play.

Salazar arrived on KU’s campus in January and spent the spring semester enrolled in classes while also participating in the team’s spring season. The Bogota, Colombia native collected four assists and a goal in six matches.
