KOBE, Japan – Kansas midfielder Sarah Robbins played all 90 minutes as a defensive midfielder, helping Canada earn a 6-0 triumph over Argentina in the first day of group play at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup at Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium.

Robbins, a 5-foot-6 senior midfielder from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, earned her first U-20 World Cup start and played all 90 minutes. Her defensive effort helped keep Argentina off the scoreboard, holding them to just six shots and four shots on goal.

The Canadians used an early red card on Argentina’s Agustina Barroso to their advantage, scoring five times in the first half. Canada’s Adriana Leon tallied three consecutive goals in the final 23 minutes of the half.

Robbins is one of 21 players on Canada’s roster. Robbins played for the Canadian U-20 National Team during a European tour earlier this summer. She was also a pool player for the U-17 Canadian National Team in 2008 and was invited to participate in the U-20 camp in 2010.

She has played in 35 matches during her time with the Jayhawks, logging over 1,500 minutes of field time. The senior is a four-time member of the Athletic Director's and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Rolls at KU.
