KU Soccer Sees 11 Named to Academic All-Big 12 Lists

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Amy Grow was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the third time in her career to highlight a list of eleven Kansas soccer players named to the conference’s academic lists it was announced Tuesday. The eleven Jayhawks honored ties the program’s record for most named to the league’s academic lists, while the ten first team selections mark a new team high.
KU saw two Jayhawks claim spots on the academic team for the third-straight year, with Grow (community health) earning a spot on the first team all three of her eligible seasons and senior Shelby Williamson (pre-med) finding her name on the All-Big 12 first team for the first time after being a second team selection her previous two years.
Kansas featured six first-time selections on the academic lists. Seniors Nicole Chrisopulos (community health) and Sarah Robbins, junior Shannon Renner (pre-med/exercise science) and sophomores Jamie Fletcher (journalism), Caroline Van Slambrouck (English) and Hayley Yearout (exercise science) each earned academic honors for the first time.
Senior Cassie Dickerson was the lone Kansas representative on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. The fourth-year transfer was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as a member of the Ohio State soccer team from 2008-10.
This marks the eight-straight season KU has put at least six student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Team. Grow also became the 16th Jayhawk to earn first team academic honors three times in her career.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Kansas arrived in San Antonio, Texas Tuesday afternoon in preparation for its quarterfinal match versus Texas Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Big 12 Soccer Championship.
