KU Freshman Cressy Earns Postseason Honor
Nov. 13, 2008
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Kansas freshman Emily Cressy has been honored by Topdrawersoccer.com. The 5-foot-5 forward was named to the national web site’s All-Rookie Second Team, as one of the top freshmen in the country.
Cressy, a freshman from Ventura, Calif., was named to the Big 12’s Rookie of the Year last week, led all conference freshmen with eight goals and 19 points this season. She tallied a team-high four game-winning goals, including the deciding mark in KU’s 4-2 upset of No. 8 Texas A&M in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament. Cressy also had game-winning tallies against NCAA Tournament participants Auburn and UCF as well as UAB.
The forward’s eight goals were the most by a KU freshman since Caroline Smith tallied 12 in her first year at Kansas (2002).
Cressy and the Jayhawks will meet Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 6:30 p.m., CST at Cagan Stadium on the campus of Stanford University. A live video feed is available for the match through Stanford’s web site, www.gostanford.com.
