CollegeSportsMadness.com Big 12 Preseason All-Conference Teams LAWRENCE, Kan. - Highly-acclaimed freshman infielder Chaley Brickey was named the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year by CollegeSportsMadness.com, highlighting several Jayhawks on the award list. A native of Haltom City, Texas, Brickey was ranked No. 22 on the ESPN Softball 2012 Recruiting Class after graduating a year early from Haltom High School. She cranked out a .643 batting average and 40 RBIs, while striking out only once in her final high school campaign. Though she will be new to the collegiate softball scene, the Jayhawk rookie is well-accustomed to accolades. As a freshman at HHS, Brickey was awarded All-District, District Defensive Player of the Year, Golden Glove Award, Haltom High School MVP and Academic All-District. The awards kept coming during her sophomore season as Brickey earned All-District and Academic All-District awards, won the Silver Bat Award, District MVP, and was the 2011 All-VYPE MVP. In her last high school season, Brickey was named the District 6-5A MVP, earned a spot on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Super Team, the All-VYPE and Academic All-District teams and was also voted the team MVP. Aside from being selected by CollegeSportsMadness.com as the Big 12's best preseason freshman, Brickey earned Big 12 Preseason All-Conference Second Team recognition. She joined teammates Mariah Montgomery and Chanin Naudin on the Second Team, while Maggie Hull received Big 12 Preseason All-Conference First Team acknowledgement. A senior infielder, Montgomery finished the 2012 season with an even .300 batting average and led the team with eight home runs and 45 RBIs, good for eighth-most in the Big 12. Naudin, a sophomore third baseman, hit .311 in conference play during her debut season, earning her All-Big 12 Second Team accolades. Last spring, Hull led the Big 12 in the regular season with a .409 batting average, breaking KU's all-time season mark. Her success earned the senior outfielder All-Big 12 First Team honors, NFCA All-District First Team accolades as well as Third Team Academic All-America.
