Baseball Sunflower Showdown
KU NCAA Softball vs. BYU

May 18, 2006

Recap |  Box Score

With the mountains as a backdrop, KU lined up in BYU's softball stadium for their first-round NCAA Softball Championship game against the Cougars.

It took many bobby pins to hold the extensions added to Coach Tracy Bunge's hair by Nicole Washburn. The extensions fulfilled a promise tied to KU's Big 12 Championship title.

Coach Bunge was happy with both the hair and the fact the Jayhawks were back in the NCAA Regional.

Kassie Humphreys allowed only one base hit and struck out 11 in the KU victory.

Humphreys was congratulated by Val Chapple after working out of a jam in the second inning.

Coach Bunge sent Val Chapple home in the fourth inning.

A high throw allowed Chapple to slide under the tag for KU's first run.

A dusty Chapple was congratulated for her effort by Jessica Moppin.

Heather Stanley came through with two-run single to put KU up 3-0.

Stanley let out a shout of joy after her big hit.

Destiny Frankenstein turned a key double play in the sixth inning to end a BYU threat.

Humphreys and Coach Bunge met the media after the KU victory.
