LAWRENCE, Kan. -

Sophomore Mariah Montgomery collected three hits, including two doubles, as she led Team Blue to a victory over Team Red in Kansas softball’s intrasquad scrimmage over the weekend. It was the team’s final preparation before its fall opener versus Baker University on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m at Arrocha Ballpark.

 

Other top performers for Team Blue included senior Brittany Hile and freshman Ashley Newman. Hile went 2-for-3 and batted in a run. Newman also tallied a pair of hits and one RBI.

 

In the pitcher’s circle, newcomers Ashley Spencer and Kristin Martinez combined for the win on Team Blue. Spencer tossed the first three innings and allowed just one hit and no runs. Martinez concluded the game giving up one run on five hits and striking out two batters.


 

 

 

For the Crimson team, junior Marissa Ingle finished with two hits in three at bats, while freshman Laura Vickers went 1-for-3.

 

Sophomore pitcher Alex Jones made a strong appearance in the circle pitching three innings and allowing no runs or hits. She also tallied four strikeouts.
