*Will serve as captain for 2011-12 season* 2010-11 (Junior): 2009-10 (Sophomore): Set three career-best times at the Big 12 Championships, placing eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:45.12), 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.16) and 13th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.63)... Won the 200 freestyle (1:52.71) at the UNI/USD double dual... Took first in the 400-yard freestyle (3:58.29) and second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.71) vs. Iowa State... Placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.28) at the LMU/USCD double dual... An Academic All-Big 12 Second Team selection... Named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll for Fall 2009 and Spring 2010. 2008-09 (Freshman): One of Kansas' most improved swimmers and was one of the team's best distance freestyle swimmers... She was a member of the school-record breaking 800 yard freestyle relay team (7:13.86) at the 2009 Big 12 Championships... Placed 6th in the 1650 yard freestyle (16:47.23), and 21st in the 500 yard freestyle (4:54.68) at the 2009 Big 12 Championships... She earned 43 points for KU at the Big 12 Championships including the 800 yard freestyle relay... She had KU's season-best times in the 1650 and 1000 yard freestyle events and the teams' second-best time in the 500 yard freestyle... Other top performances came against South Dakota and Northern Iowa when she won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.94 and against Iowa State where she was victorious in both the 400 and 800 yard freestyle events. High School (Fossil Ridge): A four-year letterwinner in swimming... Team captain her junior and senior seasons... A 2007-08 High School All-American... Received all-conference honors nine times throughout her career... Named the 2008 Northern Colorado Swimmer of the year... Holds numerous school records including the 500 free, 200 free, and 100 back... Member of the 200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free relays that broke the school records... Two-time 4A State Champion in the 500 free and two-time 4A runner-up in the 200 free. Personal: Parents are Brian and Glee Garlie... Mother, Glee, coached Shannon in high school and was a Kansas swimmer herself... A Communication Studiesmajor... And a third generation Jayhawk.
