Jayhawks Conclude Zone Championships
March 13, 2013
HOUSTON – Kansas senior Christy Cash finished with a total score of 442.10 in the platform event to lead the Jayhawk divers on the third and final day of the NCAA Zone Diving Championships at the University of Houston’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Houston, Texas Wednesday afternoon.
Cash’s preliminary round score of 232.30 was good enough to qualify her for the finals, where she added 209.80 points to her total to finish 12th, which is her highest NCAA Zone platform finish of her career.
Junior Alyssa Golden finished the event with a score of 155.85 for 28th-place and freshman Meredith Brownell posted a score of 148.25 to finish 30th.
Wednesday’s platform event completed the season for the Kansas divers, who will now turn their attention to next season.
“From what we have gone through this year and how we started out at the beginning of the year, things have really come together,” Kansas diving coach Eric Elliott said. “Especially for the freshman that don’t really know what to expect, they exceeded my expectations. I think the base is there now to move forward for next year. We are definitely going to miss Christy (Cash) next year, but I think Alyssa (Golden) is right on the verge of turning that corner of getting her confidence and competing well in meets.”
